AI NavBar Update: September 2025 - New Image Upload Requirements for Tool Submissions
What's Changed?
We've improved our tool submission process to give you more control over how your AI tool appears on AI NavBar. Starting today, we're requiring submitters to provide their own screenshots and icons when submitting tools.
Why This Change?
Previously, we attempted to automatically capture screenshots of submitted websites. However, this approach had several limitations:
- Security Restrictions: Many websites block automated crawlers and screenshot tools for security reasons
- Inaccurate Representation: Automated captures often missed important UI elements or captured loading screens
- Dynamic Content Issues: Tools requiring login, user interaction, or having dynamic content couldn't be captured properly
- Quality Concerns: Automatic captures didn't always reflect the best aspects of your tool
By having you provide your own images, we ensure your tool is presented exactly as you intend.
New Submission Requirements
When submitting your AI tool, you'll now need to provide two images:
📸 Screenshot (Required)
- Purpose: Displayed on your tool's detail page to show your tool in action
- Recommended Size: 1920x1080 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio)
- Accepted Formats: PNG, JPEG, or WebP
- Maximum File Size: 5MB
- Tips:
- Show your tool's main interface or a key feature
- Include actual content/results if possible
- Ensure text is readable
- Avoid including sensitive information
🎨 Icon (Required)
- Purpose: Displayed in tool listings, search results, and category pages
- Recommended Size: 512x512 pixels (1:1 aspect ratio)
- Accepted Formats: PNG, JPEG, or WebP
- Maximum File Size: 2MB
- Tips:
- Use your tool's logo or a representative icon
- Ensure it's recognizable at smaller sizes
- Use a clean background (white or transparent preferred)
- Keep it simple and distinctive
Benefits for Tool Creators
This change brings several advantages:
✅ Full Control: You choose the perfect images to represent your tool
✅ Better Visibility: High-quality, purposeful images help your tool stand out in listings
✅ Accurate Representation: Show your tool's actual interface and capabilities
✅ Faster Approval: No delays from failed automatic screenshot attempts
✅ Professional Presentation: Present your tool exactly as you envision it

For Existing Tools
Good news! Tools already in our database will continue to display using their existing images. There's no immediate action required.
